My name is Beth. I have trained as a 0-8 teacher (babies – 8 year olds). I have taught in both primary and early childhood. For the last 10 years, I have been a teacher and the assistant head teacher at the Otago University Childcare Association’s College Centre: Roopu Tiaki Tamaiti. I am now so pleased to be teaching at Southern Stars in beautiful Te Anau.
I have always been a lifelong learner, interested in both health and education, with two degrees – in the arts & one in education, and a diploma in natural health. I have also completed two postgraduate papers in ECE education. I have always enjoyed the concept of AKO - being both a teacher & a learner.
I believe that the early learning years are a very important foundation for lifelong learning - that each child should be treated with respect by valuing their personalities, knowledge, abilities, interests and ideas. This facilitates their individual and collective learning journeys and dispositions, in conjunction with the teachers' strengths and what is happening in the community.
