Southern Stars Early Learning Centre is a community owned mixed age centre bordering the edge of New Zealand’s largest National Park and a World Heritage Area.
This remote majestic setting makes us unique in being able to provide our children with teaching and learning experiences linked to a strong community and family spirit. We use our natural environment and assets of our community as an integral part of our programme. We explore our community with small groups of our older children in what we call Southern Adventures.
Our community of learning exists to offer high quality teaching and inspiring learning experiences to Fiordland’s tamariki and whānau. We strongly uphold the concept of Ako. In addition, our focus in the Under Two’s is our Curriculum of Care and Guardians of Play which both promote Rangimarie and Aroha.
We value reciprocal and responsive relationships, as well as Whanaungatanga with children, parents, whānau and colleagues. We believe in establishing a love of learning in children and value meaningful verbal and non-verbal communication as a corner stone of children’s learning.
We acknowledge and respect our bicultural heritage and endeavour to incorporate Te Reo and Tikanga Māori into our everyday practice. We encourage children to understand and respect our multi-cultural society.
We believe in a professional, fun and peaceful teaching and learning environment.
